Best of 2006
1. Justin Timberlake - Sexyback - Jive
Putting this on top of my charts truly is meant to be a statement. Over the last years, R&B borrowed more and more sounds and techniques from techno & electro. Producers like Timbaland and the Neptunes embraced the sounds of our music and "Sexyback" is just so raw, cutting edge and far out like nothing else in 2006. If this would have been a Tiga tune, it would have been in all the techno DJ charts for sure.
2. Rekorder - all, especially: Rekorder 5.1 - Rekorder
Can't decide, which is the best Rekorder. To avoid putting 2 or 3 of them in my Top Ten, I just put them all on position 2. Every Rekorder was a sure hit in my sets and my charts. Every release so far has been fresh and ground-breaking, something I have never experienced with any label, over so many releases.
3. Booka Shade - In White Rooms - Get Physical
The Booka Shade album was probably the electro album of the year, that every clubber could relate to and even play to their non-clubbing friends. Compatible with club and boutique. "In White Rooms" combines all the shades of the album in one track.
4. Loco Dice - Carthago - Cocoon
Dice did a lot of great productions in 2006. This is his most outstanding so far. Melodic minimalism in its purest shape.
5. Oliver Huntemann - Fieber (Album) - Gigolo/ Confused
When I'm stuck for an idea of what to play, I just pull "Fieber" out of the box. Every tune can be played, lots of them are killers on the dancefloor, keeping up what Huntemann/ Bodzin started with "Manga" in 2004 - truely the essence of electro in 2006.
6. Sebastien San - Wuxia - Gigolo
In 2006, a lot of sounds were borrowed from 1993. Sebastien San is the 1993-champ for sure. "Wuxia" is a flashback to a time when "Trance" was not yet a four-letter-word. If this record inspires more releases like this, we can look forward to a great year in 2007.
7. Swoop - Superlicious - Craft Music
Stephan Bodzin is all over the place in these charts already since he had such an enourmous output of cutting-edge tracks which were both eclectic and effective and totally unique in sound. You hear a track of him and you can immediately tell, it's a Bodzin recording. So again I could not decide which track to pick and so I went for "Superlicious".
8. Juergens - Love It - Room Recordings
Wonderful melodic electro tune, starting very sparse and minimal and unfolding all it's depth and beauty over 7 minutes. A highlight in my sets.
9. Rekleiner - The State Of Things - Connaisseur
Taking further what Patrick Cardronnet defined with "Eve By Day" in 2005. Some call this Nutrance or Neo -Trance or Electro-Trance. What do you call it?
10. Rodamaal feat. Claudio Franco - Insomnia (Âme-Remix) - Royal Flush
Âme are just soooo deep. After "Rej" they are playing in a league of their own, combining the vibe of old school with the sound of now. This is such a magic track, it always makes me shiver when I play it.

Too many good records, let's make it a Top Twenty!!!!
11. Audion - Mouth To Mouth - Spectral
A true techno monster, probably a classic already. So simple, so effective, so DJ-friendly. Has been played to death by every DJ I know over the last 2 months, probably needs a couple of months of rest now, until I can pull it out of my box again.
12. Spektre - A Glimpse Outside - Dance Electric
Another fine example for Neo-/Nu-/Electro-Trance (you name it, sic!). Sure to take you on a higher level with its warm groove.
13. Akabu - Phuture Bound (Âme-Remix) - Sonar Kollektiv
Another great remix from Âme. Lil Louis for the new millenium. Phuture Bound with a classic sound.
14. Sebo K - Horizons - Mobilee
Sebo K has almost single-handedly defined the sound of Mobilee, Anja Schneider's fresh label from Berlin. "Horizons" is such a perfect example for what I play at the beginning or the end of the night, to build things up or calm things down. Deep and beautiful.
15. Thomas Schumacher - Red Purple - Spielzeug
My man Schumacher. Been playing all his stuff all over the place. This track is a true champion, when the party has gone really wild.
16. Gregor Tresher - The Now People - Great Stuff
Tresher has such a unique trademark sound, you can immediately tell its him, when the bassline kicks in. This is for me the best of many great tracks, he released in 2006.
17. Elektrochemie  - You're My Kind - Get Physical
Love that combination of deep minimal electro and Caitlin's voice, which is far beyond the usual "Can't really sing, so let's use a fuzzbox!" and "Screamin' Bitch thinks she's Aretha"-discussion. Could have named any of their songs here, however "You're My Kind" stands out for it's delicate Moog modulations.
18. Motel 21 - Drug Addict (Einmusik-Remix) - Sugaspin
This became an instant Dubmission classic. Einmusik did not shy away from being obviously catchy to keep the dancefloor happy. If it wasn't for the stupid track name and that vocal sample, I would have ranked this much higher.
19. Märtini Brös - Spoonful Of Lovin - Pokerflat
So beautiful. Nothing but love.
20. Lo-Fi Fnk - Change Channel - Kitsune
I was playing this already in 2005, so its not really a 2006 tune. However, I still love to drop this when the time is right, 'cause it always makes me smile. It's so different from everything else around and unfortunately most people don't dig it the way I do. "Change Channel" is featured on their 2006-album "Boylife".
